Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need my own router?
Yes. You need a BGP-capable router on your side to establish a session with XROUTE. What you don't need is infrastructure at every IXP — XROUTE handles that. Setup is straightforward: add a single BGP neighbor statement, and you're connected.
How long until BGP is active after ordering?
For connections via IXPs where XROUTE is already present, provisioning is automated — typically within minutes of order confirmation. For new physical cross-connects at a data center, lead time depends on the facility.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. XROUTE operates on a prepaid model. Top up your balance, place an order, and it activates immediately. There is no minimum contract period and no cancellation penalty.
What is a Circuit ID?
Each BGP session is assigned a unique Circuit ID in the format XROUTE-{CITY}-AS58401-AS{YOUR-ASN}-{SEQ}. This identifier is used for session tracking, troubleshooting, and capacity management.
Can XROUTE run alongside my existing IXP peering?
Yes. XROUTE is additive, not exclusive. It can serve as an additional path for redundancy, or provide reach to IXPs and ASNs not covered by your current peering setup.
Does XROUTE support IPv6?
Yes. All BGP sessions support dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6.
